Chinatown at Leicester Square

Today, my friends, was superb. One for the books. My flat-mates and I took a trip to Chinatown, and it was just lovely.
So, I live in a 'dorm' of sorts on campus. I have my own room and bathroom, but I share a kitchen with a flat of 9-others. We all end up hanging out around dinner when we cook together, and it has been so much fun to get to know people from all over the world. We all study a variety of topics, and the countries represented include Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Lebanon, India, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and the States. So obviously the cooking situation is pretty sweet (hello, culinary excursions every night).
After the last few weeks of getting to know one another, some of the girls and myself decided to take a trip into Central London together. We threw around the idea of going shopping, but that just seemed so mundane. My flatmate from Cyprus had never had Chinese food, so she asked if we could go to Chinatown. And, given the fact that one of the other girls has lived for the last three-years in Taiwan and the surrounding areas, it seemed a given that we make the trip.
We made it to Chinatown with no problems, went to the MOST amazing Taiwanese restaurant ever (I'm still daydreaming about it), did a bit of shopping, drank some cappuccinos, laughed a ton, and had an all-around great time in the city.

PS, I've never been to a Chinatown in any city before, so I might have enjoyed today a bit more as a result. It's definitely got me thinking about heading to Asia sometime soon...

Have you been to [a] Chinatown before? Did you love it as much as I did?

  1. You have such gorgeous flatmates! I love Chinatown in London. They also sell Asian beauty products but they are SO expensive!

  2. These pictures are absolutely beautiful! <3 Is it sad that the first thought I had was that I recognize those lanterns from Sherlock? I don't know. I'm going to be in London in a few weeks, and now I definitely have to visit!

  3. I LOVE London's Chinatown! Such a cool area! And your living situation sounds exactly like mine when I studied abroad there -- I think we had a single Brit in our flat of nine people, haha.

  4. Chicago's Chinatown is my favorite that I've visited so far. This one looks pretty festive and expansive! I'll add checking it out to my list of London to-do's :) Great photos!

  5. The food looks delicious! I miss those green tea eggs. Haha, the first time I went to Chinatown in NYC, I felt so awkward because people kept talking to me in some Asian language (I couldn't tell them apart back in high school) so I just wanted to leave. We ended up eating in Little Italy!

  6. Oh my goodness, I'm still daydreaming about all that food! I want it now! haha. And yes - that was my first experiences with tea eggs, but it was good! And fortunately (or unfortunately?) no one confused me for a local, so I was good to stick around Chinatown :) haha. Little Italy sounds like a pretty good compromise, though.

  7. Ahh, I haven't been to Chicago's before! I'll definitely have to check it out :) And definitely pop into London's if you get a chance - it was a feast for the eyes (and, you know, an actual feast).

  8. I'm in love with it now! I keep thinking about the next time I can go back... And that's awesome! What did you study when you were abroad? I personally enjoy this layout, because it makes making new friends easier and helps with transitioning into a new place.

  9. Thank you so much! And no, that's not sad, that's awesome and you are 50% cooler in my book now. Definitely try to stop in when you're in London, though!

  10. Aren't they just?! We're missing two other ladies, one of whom is an actual model, and the other of which could definitely be. haha. And I mostly only checked out the food sitch (ha), so I'll have to go back and look at the beauty products next time :)
